Everything on a vessel that makes power also makes heat, and every cooler aboard exists to move that heat into sea water or air. When one stops doing its job the symptom is almost never the cooler itself — it is a high jacket water temperature, a charge air temperature that will not come down, a lube oil temperature creeping up under load, or an engine quietly derating because its cooling margin has gone.
The parts that fail are predictable: plate packs and their gaskets, tube stacks eroded or scaled, zinc anodes long since consumed, end cover gaskets, and on radiator-cooled sets the core and fan assembly. We supply those as individual spares and as complete units, for Alfa Laval, GEA, Sondex, Kelvion, APV, Funke and Bowman equipment as well as the coolers fitted by the engine builders themselves.

Cooling Problems and What They Usually Mean
- Jacket water temperature high with the thermostat proven — fouled or scaled cooler, or seawater flow restricted
- Charge air temperature high and scavenge pressure down — air-side fouling of the charge air cooler

Can you supply plate heat exchanger plates and gaskets separately?
Yes — individual plates, complete plate packs and gasket sets. We need the unit make and model, the plate count and the gasket type, since gasket compound differs between fresh water, sea water and lube oil duties and fitting the wrong one is a short-lived repair.
How do I know whether a cooler needs cleaning or replacing?
If performance recovers after chemical cleaning and the tube or plate thicknesses are within limits, clean it. If you are finding wall thinning, pitting through the tube plate, cracked plates, or cross-contamination between circuits, replace the stack or plate pack — a cooler leaking between oil and water is a failure waiting to reach the bearings.
Do you supply sacrificial anodes for marine coolers?
Yes, zinc and aluminium anodes along with the plugs and sealing washers. Anodes fully consumed at survey are the most common reason end covers and tube plates start pitting, and they are among the cheapest items on the vessel to renew.
What causes a charge air cooler to foul?
Air-side fouling from oil carry-over past the turbocharger seals and combustion deposits, and water-side fouling from scale or marine growth. High charge air temperature together with falling scavenge pressure points to the air side; high temperature with normal pressure points to the water side.
