Marine Cylinder Head Supplier
New, OEM and professionally reconditioned cylinder heads and cylinder covers for marine main and auxiliary engines, complete with valves, seats, studs and gasket kits.
A cylinder head carries the exhaust and inlet valves, the fuel valve, the starting air valve, the relief valve and the indicator cock, and it does all of that while sealing peak firing pressure against a liner that is moving thermally against it. Which is why heads crack — usually between the valve seat pockets — and why they are one of the most common items to arrive as a complete assembly rather than a bare casting.
We supply bare heads, fully dressed heads with valves and seats fitted, and reconditioned units that have been pressure-tested, re-seated and certified. For older tonnage the reconditioned route often makes more sense than the OEM lead time, and we will say so rather than quote you a new casting you do not need.
What We Supply
- Bare cylinder heads and cylinder covers to engine specification
- Fully dressed heads complete with inlet and exhaust valves, seats and guides
- Reconditioned heads — crack-tested, re-seated and pressure-tested with certificates
- Cylinder head gaskets, sealing rings and copper joints
- Cylinder head studs, nuts, hydraulic tensioning jacks and O-rings
- Valve rotators, springs, collets and valve cages
- Indicator cocks, relief valves and starting air valves
- Fuel valve sleeves, cooling jacket inserts and water guide rings
When a Cylinder Head Comes Off
- Cracking between the exhaust valve seat and the fuel valve bore, found by dye penetrant at overhaul
- Cooling water leaking into the combustion space, or into the exhaust and out the funnel
- Valve seat recession beyond the maker's limit — no longer re-seatable
- Loss of compression or high exhaust temperature on one unit
- Corrosion or erosion in the cooling jacket found at inspection
- Distorted or pulled head studs after an overpressure event
- Leaking sealing ring at the liner landing face, showing as combustion gas in the jacket water
Engine & Equipment Makes We Cover
Cylinder Heads supplied for the makes below, as genuine OEM and as class-approved equivalents — both quoted so you can decide against your survey date rather than guess.
What to Send Us for a Quote
Send the engine make and type designation, the cylinder number, and whether you want a bare head, a dressed head or a reconditioned exchange unit. If you are replacing after a crack, a photograph of the crack location helps us advise whether the same failure is likely to repeat.

Cylinder Heads — Common Questions
What superintendents and purchasing teams ask us most about marine cylinder heads.
Do you supply reconditioned marine cylinder heads?
Yes. Reconditioned heads are crack-tested, re-seated, pressure-tested and supplied with certificates. On older tonnage this is frequently the sensible choice — a new OEM casting on a twelve-week lead time does not help a vessel that docks next month.
Can you supply cylinder heads complete with valves and seats?
Yes. We supply bare heads, fully dressed heads with inlet and exhaust valves, seats and guides fitted, or the individual components if you are dressing them yourself.
Do you supply cylinder head studs and hydraulic tensioning tools?
We supply the studs, nuts, O-rings and sealing rings as standard, and can source hydraulic tensioning jacks and pumps to the engine specification on request.
Which engines do you cover for cylinder heads?
MAN B&W, Wärtsilä, Sulzer, MAK, Yanmar, Daihatsu, Hanshin, Akasaka, HiMSEN, Caterpillar, Cummins and Volvo Penta, across both main engines and auxiliaries.
Why do marine cylinder heads crack?
Almost always thermal fatigue in the bridge between the exhaust valve seat and the fuel valve bore, where the metal sees the steepest temperature gradient. Contributing factors are cooling water quality, load cycling, overloading a single unit and incorrect tensioning at reassembly.
What documentation comes with a cylinder head?
Certificates of conformity and material certificates for new and OEM heads, plus crack-test and pressure-test reports for reconditioned units — accepted by ABS, DNV, LR, BV, RINA, NK, KR and CCS.
