Marine Prelube Oil Pump Spare Parts
Rotors, screws, gears, mechanical seals, bearings, relief valves and overhaul kits for prelube, priming and standby lubricating oil pumps.
A prelube pump runs before the engine turns, filling the galleries and bearings so the first revolutions are not made dry. On engines that start automatically — emergency generators, standby sets — it runs on a timer and nobody watches it, which is why its failure is usually discovered from bearing wear rather than from the pump itself. The same applies to the standby lube oil pump that cuts in when main pressure falls.
These are screw, gear and vane pumps, and each wears differently: screw pumps lose clearance between rotor and liner, gear pumps wear the housing crescent and side plates, vane pumps lose the vanes. All three fail at the mechanical seal first, and a seal weeping into the sump is the cheapest fault on this page to put right. We supply rotor and screw sets, gear sets, mechanical seals, bearings, relief valves and overhaul kits for the pumps actually fitted — Shinko, Teikoku, Taiko Kikai, IMO, Allweiler, Naniwa and the rest.
What We Supply
- Screw sets, rotors and liners for screw-type lube oil pumps
- Gear sets, side plates and housings for gear pumps
- Mechanical seals, seal faces, O-rings and complete seal kits
- Bearings, bearing housings and shaft sleeves
- Relief valves, bypass valves and pressure-regulating valves
- Pump shafts, couplings and coupling elements
- Electric drive motors, and bearings or rewinds for them
- Complete overhaul kits by running-hour interval
Prelube and Lube Oil Pump Symptoms
- Oil weeping at the pump shaft — mechanical seal, the first thing to fail on all three pump types
- Prelube pressure not reached before the start sequence times out — worn rotor or screw clearance
- Noisy pump — air being drawn in on the suction side, or a worn bearing
- Delivery pressure falling with the pump running normally — relief valve passing or set wrong
- Standby pump cutting in repeatedly — main pump worn, not a fault in the standby
- Pump will not prime after an oil change — air lock, or a non-return valve on the suction holding open
- Motor tripping on start — seized pump, or the drive coupling element failed
- Metal in the strainer after a pump overhaul — the old pump was already passing debris, check the bearings
Engine & Equipment Makes We Cover
Marine Prelube Oil Pump Spare Parts supplied for the makes below, as genuine OEM and as class-approved equivalents — both quoted so you can decide against your survey date rather than guess.
What to Send Us for a Quote
Send the pump make and the model from the pump's own nameplate, plus the serial number — lube oil pumps are often rebranded by the engine builder, and the plate on the pump identifies it where the engine documentation does not. Tell us whether you want the seal only or the full interval kit. If the pump has been running noisy, say so, and we quote bearings with the seal rather than leaving you to open it twice.

Marine Prelube Oil Pump Spare Parts — Common Questions
What superintendents and purchasing teams ask us most about prelube and lube oil pump spares.
What does a prelube pump do?
It fills the lubricating oil galleries and bearings before the engine turns, so the first revolutions are not made with dry bearings. On automatically starting engines it runs on a timer as part of the start sequence, and a failure usually shows up as bearing wear rather than as an obvious pump fault.
My prelube pump is weeping oil at the shaft. What is it?
The mechanical seal, in almost every case. It is the first component to fail on screw, gear and vane pumps alike, and it is the cheapest thing on the pump to put right — provided it is done before the leak empties the sump or the bearing runs dry.
Should I replace the seal only, or overhaul the pump?
If the pump is quiet and still making pressure, the seal. If it is noisy, slow to build pressure, or the standby pump has been cutting in, quote the interval kit — bearings and rotor clearance will be near the end of their life too, and opening the pump twice costs more than the parts.
Which lube oil pump makes do you supply parts for?
Shinko, Teikoku, Taiko Kikai, IMO, Allweiler, Naniwa, Desmi, Azcue, Kral, Ishi, Hamworthy and Framo, as genuine and class-approved equivalents, both quoted with their real lead times.
Can you supply the pump's electric motor too?
Yes — bearings, rewinds or a complete replacement motor. Prelube and standby pump motors are standard marine machines, usually IP55, and we quote the motor alongside the pump parts where both are due.
What information do you need to quote?
The pump make, the model from the pump's own nameplate and the serial number. Engine builders frequently rebrand lube oil pumps, so the pump plate identifies it where the engine manual will not.
