Marine Electric Motor Spare Parts
Bearings, rotors, stator rewinds, cooling fans, terminal boxes, shaft seals and space heaters for pump, fan, purifier and deck machinery motors.
Most electric motors on a vessel fail for one of two reasons, and neither is the winding itself. Bearings go first — drive end before non-drive end, usually announced by a rising vibration reading or a note you can hear across the engine room. The second is moisture: a space heater that has stopped working lets condensation into the windings while the motor is stopped, and the insulation resistance falls until the first start after a lay-up trips the breaker. A megger reading taken every month is worth more than any spare on this page.
We supply bearings in the correct clearance class, rotors, cooling fans and fan covers, terminal boxes and glands, shaft seals, space heaters, slip rings and brushes, and we arrange rewinds to the original insulation class for motors it is worth keeping. Marine motors are typically 440V 60Hz three-phase, IP55 or IP56 for engine room duty, insulation class F with class B rise, and Ex d flameproof where they sit in a cargo pump room — the enclosure and certification have to be matched, not just the frame size.
What We Supply
- Drive end and non-drive end bearings in the maker's clearance class, sealed or open
- Rotors, rotor shafts and complete rotor assemblies
- Stator rewinds to the original insulation class, F or H
- Cooling fans, fan covers and ventilation grilles
- Terminal boxes, terminal blocks, cable glands and gaskets
- Space heaters, thermistors, PT100 sensors and winding thermostats
- Shaft seals, V-ring seals and bearing housing covers
- Slip rings and carbon brushes for slip-ring and wound-rotor motors
- Complete replacement motors, IP55/IP56 and Ex d flameproof
Electric Motor Symptoms and Their Usual Cause
- Rising vibration or a bearing note — drive end bearing, nearly always before the non-drive end
- Insulation resistance falling month on month — moisture in the windings, usually a dead space heater
- Motor trips on start after a lay-up — condensation in the windings, megger before trying again
- Running hot at normal load — blocked cooling fan, broken fan blade or a fouled frame
- Two phases drawing correctly and one low — single phasing, check supply before blaming the motor
- Burning smell with the motor still running — insulation breaking down, stop it before it becomes a rewind
- Bearing failing repeatedly on the same end — shaft misalignment or coupling wear, not the bearing
- Sparking at the slip rings — worn brushes or a scored ring on a wound-rotor machine
Engine & Equipment Makes We Cover
Marine Electric Motor Spare Parts supplied for the makes below, as genuine OEM and as class-approved equivalents — both quoted so you can decide against your survey date rather than guess.
What to Send Us for a Quote
Send a photograph of the motor's own rating plate — frame size, kW, voltage, frequency, rpm, IP rating, insulation class and the serial number are all on it, and together they identify the machine without a catalogue. Tell us what it drives and whether it sits in a hazardous area, because an Ex d motor cannot be replaced with a standard IP55 one. For bearings alone, the rating plate plus the bearing numbers stamped on the end shields is enough to quote same day.

Marine Electric Motor Spare Parts — Common Questions
What superintendents and purchasing teams ask us most about marine electric motor spares.
Which marine electric motor makes do you supply parts for?
Hyundai Electric, TECO, Siemens, ABB, WEG, Hyosung, Nidec Leroy-Somer, Marathon and Brook Crompton, plus the motors fitted to Shinko, Teikoku and Taiko Kikai pump sets. We supply genuine and class-approved equivalents and quote both with their real lead times.
Can you supply a replacement motor rather than parts?
Yes. Send the rating plate and what the motor drives and we quote the complete machine alongside the repair, so you can compare against your docking date. An Ex d flameproof motor must be replaced like for like — a standard IP55 unit is not an acceptable substitute in a hazardous area.
Why does the insulation resistance keep falling?
Moisture in the windings, and the usual cause is a space heater that has stopped working. The heater keeps the winding above dew point while the motor is stopped; once it fails, condensation does the rest. Check the heater circuit before arranging a rewind.
Do you arrange rewinds?
Yes, to the original insulation class, for motors where rewinding is the sensible economic choice. On smaller frames a new motor is often cheaper and faster than a rewind plus the downtime, and we will say so rather than quote the rewind by default.
What bearings do marine motors take?
Standard deep-groove ball bearings on most frames, in the clearance class the maker specifies — C3 is common for motor duty because of the thermal expansion. The bearing numbers are stamped on the end shields; send those with the rating plate and we quote same day.
What documentation comes with marine motor spares?
Certificates of conformity and material traceability accepted by ABS, DNV, LR, BV, RINA, NK, KR and CCS. For Ex d flameproof machines we supply the certification covering the hazardous-area rating as well.
